Alamosa seniors host flu clinic Thursday, October 4

ALAMOSA — Protect your community with flu immunity! Join the Alamosa Seniors along with Safeway Pharmacy to get your flu or pneumonia shot. The clinic will be held here at the center on Thursday, October 4th from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Vaccines available are: regular and high does flu shot, prevnar and pneumovax. No need to call first, just bring your insurance info and drop in.

Line Dancing with Karen Stills begins this week and will run every Tuesday through March of 2019 from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Karen will be here at 9:30 for any folks who would like a step refresher or pre-class warm-up! Join us for this fun and beneficial program as we move and step our way through fox trot, 2 step, knee hitch, box step, reverse box, walking steps, cha-cha and waltz. Health benefits are: improved cardio, muscle strength, flexibility, bone density, and blood pressure. The social aspects of participating in a line dancing class will help to increase your sense of well-being, so don’t wait! Come on out and enjoy the program! You’ll be glad you did.

Learn to live FREELY with diabetes class is scheduled to take place from Thursday, Oct. 18th – Thursday Nov. 29th from 1:30 p.m. – 4 p.m. There will be no class on Nov 22nd. Do you have prediabetes or diabetes? These free self-management workshops can help you make small changes that lead to big rewards. Classes are interactive and led by trained facilitators. Topics include: balancing blood sugar, meal guidelines and planning, safe exercising ideas, reading food labels, dealing with depression and stress and many other self-management tips! Classes will be held at the Alamosa Senior Citizens Center located at 92 Colorado Ave. Call Monica Wolfe to sign up @ 719-589-4511.

* Dime Bingo, M-Th from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. Free to members. $2 fee for non-members.

* Tai Chi with Lyn Johnson Tuesday mornings at 8:30 a.m. and Wednesday evenings @ 5:30 p.m.

* Free 5 point ear acupuncture conducted by Rick Wertz each Tuesday @ 9:30 a.m. for veterans and seniors 50 & over. Those who participate note less stress & anxiety, & better sleep.

* Sewing Group (includes Knitting, Crocheting, Quilting and anything you want to work on) meets each Wednesday @ 10:30 am and the Mah Jongg group @ 1 p.m.

* Rock Painting Class each Thursday @ 10 a.m.!

* Linda Falkenthal is here each Friday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. to help with your computer, smart phone or tablet needs. Call to sign up for a session.

* Chair Yoga each Friday at 10 a.m. in October!

* Dominoes - Fridays @ 12:30 p.m.

* Daily transportation is available for seniors 60 and over within Alamosa City limits between 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Please call ahead at least 24 hours in advance to schedule a ride for errands, doctor visits, grocery shopping, dining and participating in events at the Center, etc.

* If you are not yet a member, please consider joining us! Regular annual membership is $30 per person or for an Ambassador membership $100 per person. We are located at 92 Colorado in Alamosa adjacent to Cole Park. Hours of operation are: M-Th 8 a.m.-3 p.m. & Fridays 8 a.m.-2 p.m., 719-589-3277
