Alamosa proclaims Historic Preservation Month

Alamosa City Councilor Jan Vigil, center, presents the city’s proclamation for May as Historic Preservation Month to Alamosa Historic Preservation Advisory Committee Chairman Ralph Symbleme, front right, and committee member Don Thompson, front left. Flanking them are city councilors from left Liz Thomas Hensley, Michael Carson, David Broyles and Mayor Ty Coleman.

Historic Preservation Month recognizes that historic sites and structures are symbols of heritage and valuable assets in the community. The city recognizes these treasures through its historic registry. Symbleme and Thompson thanked the city for its support in designating and preserving historic structures and for Councilman Vigil’s presence at the committee meetings. Vigil said there are visitors who come here to see the historic sites, and he thanked the committee for its efforts in preserving them. The most recent designation was the Wayside building, an early stagecoach stop.
