Alamosa Literacy Council celebrates anniversary, member's successful mayoral race

The Alamosa Literacy Council celebrated its second anniversary with a birthday cake, review of accomplishments and member sharing on Tuesday, November 14 in Alamosa. Just a few of the group’s accomplishments include: Reading Corners; StoryWalks; SummerFest booth; Career Fridays at Tierra Nueva; summer reading program participation; and many other events.

Newly elected Alamosa Mayor Ty Coleman, who is a member of the literacy council, said, “I am passionate about this.” He shared that he had learning difficulties when he was young and did not really learn to read until eighth grade when someone in the community helped him. Giving other young people that confidence is very important, he said. “We can give these kids hope,” he said. “We are going to have to invest in our kids.”
