Alamosa hosts Regional Cross Country meet

ALAMOSA — Thursday afternoon Cattails Golf course will be the location for 3A Region 2’s Regional Cross Country meet. 

Alamosa High School will have a little of home field advantage against the likes of; The Classical Academy, Colorado Springs Christian School, Florence HS, James Irwin Charter HS, La Junta HS, Lamar HS, Lutheran HS, Manitou Springs HS, Salida HS, Vanguard School and Woodland Park HS.

The boys and girls squads have done well thus far this season. Alamosa’s boys have picked up three team firsts, topping the podium at Cheyenne Mountain, Rocky Ford and Pueblo Central’s meets. Top runner senior Elijah DeLaCerda anchors the team with a first and two second overall placings thus far this season. Typically following DeLaCerda are teammates- junior Josh Lopez and sophomore Josh Medina. Fellow Alamosa runner senior Kason Smith has shown some speed when he wants to, placing eighth for the Moose at Pueblo Central.

Alamosa’s girls have had some success as well picking up a second place and two third place finishes as a team. The girls’ top runner is junior Lilly Lavier. Through the season Lavier has earned a first, second and two third overall placings. Fellow junior Alliyah Molina isn’t typically far behind with sophomore Emily Lavier rounding out the girls team’s top three runners.

After a coach’s meeting at 2 p.m. the girls will get first crack at the course, opening gun is scheduled for 3 p.m, the boys will take over 3:45 p.m. and the award ceremony is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
