Alamosa ArtScape Public Art on Loan seeks artists

ALAMOSA — The 3rd Annual ArtScape Public Art on Loan Program has opened its Call to Artists for the 2019-2020 downtown business district exhibits.

Artists nationwide are invited to fill out and submit an application for the program. The application can be found at www.cityofalamosa.org/public-art or on CaFÉ at https://www.callforentry.org. The application process will close on February 15 at 11:59 p.m.

The City of Alamosa plans to designate 15 sites throughout downtown for display of public artwork. The artwork will be works from professional and amateur artists from around the nation.

Artwork will be selected through a jury process and once the final selection is made artwork will be displayed for a one-year period starting on September 6, 2019. The community will also have the opportunity to purchase artwork and to select their favorite artwork for a “People’s Choice Award.”

The city will receive 20 percent of all art sales and this money will be reinvested into growing the art program.

During the city’s first year of the program two sculptures were purchased: El Pastor by Huberto Maestas was purchased by the City of Alamosa and Running Girl by Harold Linke was purchased by Konnie and Damon Martin – Thank you!

During the second year of the program the Art Committee created a sponsorship program to help sustain the program. During this year there have been four sponsors, SLV Federal Bank, May-Wa Chinese Restaurant, First Southwest Bank, and an anonymous sponsor – Thank you!
