Airport awarded $142,500 grant

ALAMOSA — The San Luis Valley Regional Airport has been awarded a grant of $142,500 for the installation of a fuel tank from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs.

The announcement came in a letter to Alamosa County Commissioner, Michael Yohn from Rick Garcia, executive director of DOLA on Thursday.

Alamosa County applied for funding through the state’s Energy and Mineral Impact Assistance program.

The funds are expected to come from state severance tax proceeds.

Garcia noted that the project was reviewed based on factors such as connection to energy impact, degree of need, measurable outcomes, the amount of the request, community goals, the level of local match, community support, management capacity, and readiness. Garcia further noted that competition for funding was intense and that the volume of requests exceeded the available funds.

Alamosa County and the  SLV Regional Airport have long sought to obtain grant funding for the improvement of its Fuel Farm system.

Thus, the grant award comes as welcome news for the airport management and county officials, as the project is likely to enhance airport operations greatly. The offer is valid for one year.

More information on this project will be coming soon.
