AHS student charged with firearm violations

ALAMOSA– An Alamosa High School student was charged Wednesday for allegedly having a firearm on school property.

The Alamosa Police Department reports they received a tip about 12:21 p.m. that a student had brought a firearm to the school in attempt to sell it. Due to the quick actions of AHS school administration keeping in constant contact with APD officers, this incident was quickly resolved.

Officers were able to locate the juvenile who was not on school grounds. The school was not placed on lockdown due to officers locating the suspect immediately upon arrival, no firearm was located, and it was later discovered the student provided the alleged firearm to another person of interest who was not on school grounds.

At this time the juvenile suspect is being charged with felony unlawful possession of weapons on school grounds and unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon, a misdemeanor.

“This was an isolated incident and we do not believe there was a credible threat to the school at any time,” APD said in a news release. “Thank you to the AHS administration, students and community for being alert and immediately reporting these types of incidents to law enforcement.”
