Mooch was born in a shelter in New Orleans, La. just after Hurricane Katrina, where he spent 9 years, alone and sad. He was finally adopted, and his new owner brought him to live in Alamosa, where finding housing with a dog is almost impossible. Thus, Mooch found himself again in a dog shelter at the Valley Humane League. Life back in the shelter brought him depression. He laid on the floor, hardly ever ate and never, ever wagged his tail, making him exceedingly hard to adopt. One day, Mattress Mary came into the shelter, looking for a friend for her dog Maggie. When she heard Mooch’s sad tale, she sat in the kennel with him, it took a while but eventually, Mooch moved his tail- just a little, then he wagged it a bit and licked Mary’s hand - she was sold! Mary wanted to make a difference by adopting a dog with little prospect for a happy life. Mooch is happy now and lives with Mattress Mary, her husband Mark and Maggie. He hates leaving the house but is delighted every time his heroine returns from work and he wags his tail profusely. Remember all you pups stuck in the shelter dreaming of your forever home…never, ever give up-a Mattress Mary is coming for you.
