A Trail of Thoughts: About Acronyms

I have heard about a great deal about acronyms in my day. Some are very blunt while others are quite funny. My family has been known to make up some of our own. My dad and a good friend of his have one that pertains to travel that they call the five W’s. It stands for “We won’t walk, ... will we?” This is just one example of a creative spin on letters and words.

A more recent one was given to us by the sport of tennis, which can often be found on the TV at my house, particularly with this year’s Wimbledon in full swing. When it comes to watching the great Roger Federer, there are a few words that come to mind. Those words are Cool, Calm, Collected, Confident and Comfortable.  He doesn’t let a temper get the best of him. He stays on track with his game and doesn’t let opponents deter him. He has confidence in his record and ability. Finally, he seldom looks hot or tired and maintains a sense of humor.

While tennis is just a sport, some good lessons can be found in it with a closer look. I think Federer is a prime example of what those some of the things that can be learned are. I often have to remind myself that life is about keeping a level head and sticking with what you know works. That can also mean not letting distractions get the best of you. When that choice is made, good results can often be found. Frankly, this world could use a lot more of that kind of approach.
