VALLEY — Of interest to San Luis Valley residents who want to make sure traditional uses are preserved in a new national monument in New Mexico, a draft plan for the new Rio Grande del Norte National Monument is currently in the works.
The BLM and its cooperating agencies are making good progress on preparing the draft Monument Plan, taking into consideration the broad scope of planning issues and opportunities expressed by the public, including those from San Luis Valley residents.
In a meeting earlier this year in Antonito, area residents impressed upon BLM representatives the northern New Mexico monument should not interfere with their long-standing uses of the public lands, such as livestock grazing.
