ALAMOSA ó Phillips 66 received formal approval last week from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) to proceed with abatement and demolition of structures at Devilís Playground.

Field teams will be mobilizing south of the Rio Grande Railroad tracks in the location of the former Oriental Refinery this week, and abatement activities are scheduled to begin today, according to the Alamosa County Land Use Department (LU). The entire project is expected to take between six to eight weeks.

Denver-based Earth Services and Abatement is the contractor, according to LU, and Koch Environmental Health, Morrison, will conduct third-party air monitoring. St. Croix Environmental, Inc. is managing the project and will have representatives on site.
