Manassa hamburger stand celebrates 60-year history

Posted: Thursday, Jul 17th, 2014

MANASSA — When asked what they remember most about Manassa’s annual Mormon Pioneer Days Celebration, most people will mention the hamburger stand.

Every year, the lines begin early as people gather to enjoy a simple hamburger, pop and chips.

“I’ll take 15,” one person will order. The next may ask for eight.

The lines move quickly, and it’s always entertaining to listen to conversations while waiting. People return to the small town after being gone for years, and run into old friends waiting for their turn to order.

The hamburger stand began in 1949 as a fund-raising idea and served its first hamburger in 1950.
