Antonito resident Harlan William Montoya, 49, passed away June 10, 2014 at the Rio Grande Inn Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. Harlan was born on August 17, 1964 in La Jara, Colorado, the son of Virgil Montoya and Tillie Valdez Montoya. Harlan was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Deedra Manzanares on April 19, 2013 in Antonito, Colorado. Harlan was a wonderful and loving husband, son, brother, cousin and friend who enjoyed fishing, collecting arrowheads, camping, listening to music, but above all he cherished the time he was able to spend with his friends and family.
Survivors include his wife Deedra Montoya of Antonito, father Virgil Montoya of Caņon, CO; sisters Janet Montoya of Colorado Springs, CO; Bernadette (Tim) Gonzales of Farmington, NM; Laura (Andrew) Martinez of Denver, CO; brothers Darrell Montoya of Antonito, CO; Virgil (Shirley) Montoya of Antonito, CO. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Harlan was preceded in death by his mother Tillie Montoya and one sister Darlene Montoya.
Cremation was chosen and a Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, June 16, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. Inurnment will follow at the Las Mesitas Cemetery in Las Mesitas, Colorado with full military honors. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa.
