ALAMOSA — Ortega Middle School (OMS) was one of 25 schools picked this year to receive a Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) grant for structure repairs.

OMS was awarded $2,608,859 BEST dollars to replace the aging school’s roof and building mechanics, according to BEST documents. The Alamosa School District (ASD) will contribute $652,214 to the repairs.

BEST focuses on helping public schools with a multitude of capital construction needs; from new roofs and boilers, to major renovations and new schools, according to the Colorado Department of Education (CDE). The goal of BEST is to provide first class, high performing, 21st century facilities and help alleviate health and safety concerns throughout Colorado.
