Eighth Street safety worries city, school

The City of Alamosa installed parking signs this spring in an attempt to alleviate some of the problems associated with dropping off and picking up students at Alamosa Elementary. West Eighth Street and Washington Avenue is a corner of congestion during the school year.

ALAMOSA — Traffic congestion and child safety are concerns for both the Alamosa Board of Education (ABOE) and the Alamosa City Council, but who’s responsible for the West Eighth Street chaos is up for further discussion.

The ABOE and the city councilors met Monday evening in a work session for an initial talk on how to redirect stressful traffic created when Alamosa Elementary (AE) opened a few years ago without imposing danger on students and parents arriving and departing the campus located between West Eighth and Tenth Street.
