Sowards-Cerny receives statewide award

Debra Sowards-Cerny, right, was presented the 2014 Rural Media Excellence Award at the State Capitol on Tuesday by Carmen Murillo Stevens, middle, for her years of dedication to Tu Casa, Inc. and publicity shared in the Valley Courier. DENVER– A long-time board member and immediate past president of Tu Casa Inc. was honored here Tuesday by the Colorado Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CCASA).

Debra Sowards-Cerny was presented the 2014 Rural Media Excellence Award for her efforts through the Valley Courier to help dispel “myths about sexual violence, breaking the silence surrounding the crime, and providing survivor-centered coverage of sexual violence,” according to a plaque she received.
