HOOPER A multimillion-dollar transmission line replacement project is underway in the northern end of the San Luis Valley.

The project involves replacing lines dating back to about 1926 as well as replacing existing power poles with fewer, taller poles.

Mark Stutz, senior media representative for Xcel Energy, said the project began on the north side of the Mosca Junction Substation and will continue north to about County Road H25 in Saguache County. That first phase is approximately 10-12 miles long and is being completed this winter and spring.
