ALAMOSA — “This man is dead, and I shot him.”
This was the first statement Gregory Scott Carpenter made to law enforcement officers last April when they responded to a domestic violence call in Wagon Wheel Trailer Park just south of Alamosa.
It was one of the statements neither side was arguing about during a suppression motion hearing yesterday before Chief District Court Judge Pattie Swift. Carpenter’s attorneys did argue, however, that statements he made to law enforcement afterwards — particularly those describing where his neighbor Jose Luis Fernandez, 36, was when he shot him — should not be shared with the jury in Carpenter’s upcoming trial.
