“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” Wouldn’t it be nice if that were true? Unfortunately, words often hurt more than sticks and stones, and broken bones heal much more quickly than broken spirits and injured egos.
Last week, I listened as Tina Meier shared her grief over the loss of her daughter, Megan, who committed suicide after being bullied. Words had been used to destroy a life that was once full of hope and potential.
And it happens all around us every day. Not every victim resorts to suicide, but there are too many who walk the streets of despair because they are made to feel less than what they are.
