Alamosa resident Greg A. Avila, 59, passed away December 22, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Greg was born on December 30, 1953 in Alamosa, Colorado, the son of Rudolph Avila and Marina S. Naranjo Avila. He was employed by Walmart for twenty one years. Greg was united in marriage to Colleen A. Tabeling on July 9, 2005. Greg was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who enjoyed camping, being in the mountains, telling jokes, playing music, making his special green chile and margaritas, but above all he cherished the time he spent with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Colleen A. Tableing-Avila of Alamosa, CO; his daughters Marina (Anthony Muniz) Avila of Alamosa, CO; Amber Lucero of Denver, CO; Amber (Paul Maez) Jacquez-Maez of Alamosa, CO; his son Adam Tabeling of Baltimore, MD; his oldest, and special, grandson, Alfonso Frias of Alamosa, CO; grandchildren Savanah Avila, Angelo Frias, Anthony Muniz, Maximus Muniz, Lee Gonzales, and Zavier Maez; his mother-in-law Connie Tabeling of Alamosa, CO; sister Juana Avila of Alamosa, CO; brothers John Avila of Alamosa, CO; Francisco (Martha) Avila of Fremont, CA; Manuel (June) Avila of Alamosa, CO; and Robert (Dannette) Avila of Alamosa, CO. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents Rudolph and Marina Avila, three brothers, Leonicio, Joe, and Richard Avila, his sister Genevive Rogers, and his father-in-law Ralph Tabeling.
Viewing and Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 26, 2013 from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Alamosa. A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at 7:00 PM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa, CO. A Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Friday December 27, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa, with interment to follow at the Alamosa Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa.
