ALAMOSA — Don’t forget about the Alamosa High School (AHS) gymnastics team was the message AHS gymnastics coach Delhia Mahaney delivered to the Alamosa Board of Education (ABOE) on Monday night during its regular meeting.

After watching both the AHS student athletes and community enjoy and look forward to many successes in the new athletic complex, Mahaney explained the AHS gymnastics team needs its own space to thrive, and that the potentially 6,700 square foot old agriculture building located on the Ortega Middle School (OMS) campus might be just the place.

“We’re not asking for anything other sports don’t have,” Mahaney said. “We want to be able to explore that option (OMS).”

The team returned from the state competition this weekend, which qualifying for is quite a feat in itself, she said. Should this trend continue as it has for a number of years, and even improve, the AHS gymnastics team needs a permanent place to practice year-round.
