AMOSA—The Adams State University Women’s soccer season came to an end on Sunday evening after they fell by a score of 2-nil to the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks on Senior Day here at the ASU Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Grizzlies did open the weekend with a 2-0 win over the Colorado Christian Cougars to keep their playoff hopes alive but after Sunday’s loss, Adams State did not make the six-team cute to participate in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship Tournament. The Grizzlies finished the season with a 6-6-6 overall record and a 3-5-6 RMAC record to finish in eighth place in the standings. The Mavericks finished with a 7-11 overall record and a 6-8 conference record in seventh place in the standings.

On Friday’s win over CCU, the Grizzlies and Cougars went 81 minutes before a goal was scored. ASU junior Bethany Hightower got the scoring started in the 83rd minute as she was able to tap in a corner kick that was perfectly placed by junior midfielder Laci Jones.

In the 87th minute junior Allie Mercado was credited with a goal after freshman forward Dezirae Armijo fired a shot at the net and it was deflected into the net.
