CENTER—Friday brought good news to the Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds, Sargent Farmers and Del Norte Tigers as the three teams advanced to the Regional Round of the Class 2A State Volleyball tournament.

The Thunderbirds were able to defeat the Sargent Farmers in four games to capture the District I crown while the Del Norte Tigers defeated the Sanford Indians.

The championship match pitted the Farmers and the Thunderbirds in a rematch from earlier this season. In that match, the two teams battled to a five-set battle with the Farmers winning by two points in the fifth set.

On Friday, the Thunderbirds opened up with a 25-20 win before falling 25-19 in the seconds set. In the third set, Sangre de Cristo won 25-19 before clinching the title with another 25-19 win.

The Tigers downed in four sets the Sanford Indians in the third place match, which was a must-win game.

In the first matches of the day, the Center Vikings played the Sargent Farmers. The Vikings had a strong first set but the Farmers warmed up and started playing to the best of the ability and they swept the Vikings in three sets.
