Letter: Why Bervig is running for councilman

Posted: Friday, Oct 18th, 2013

My reasons to run for Councilman At Large are as follows: I will be in attendance at work sessions, planning meetings and council retreats. When council has a reason to discuss present events or future issues, I will be part of those meetings. My 38 years as an Alamosa business man, and my 24 years on city council have given me the experience to deal with managing public funded budgets and providing accountable local government to all of our citizens. I support economic development that will provide jobs and additional revenues for our city.

Over the last number of years, your Alamosa City Council has added a Recreations Center, a new City Hall, Fire Station, Library and Police Department. When serving on city council, we developed a levy protection system that eliminated flood insurance for all our Alamosa citizens. Our commitment to our senior citizens will continue. Their new facility is beautiful and enjoyed by many. A joint landfill agreement with Rio Grande County and a strong recycling program have been a major benefit to all our citizens.

I have proven my ability to work with other elected officials at the county and state level. You can count on my commitment to serve you with common sense and integrity. I ask for your vote on November 5.

Thank you,

Farris Berv
