Letter to the editor: Back door deals

Posted: Thursday, Oct 17th, 2013

My name was misspelled as a candidate for the Alamosa School Board. My correct spelling is Eric Gile.

I was quoted as saying I support the current school board, which I do to a degree. However if I supported them whole heartedly I would not be running for school board.

I took exception to a candidate’s final statement, in which he implied that a school board in Alamosa has shown favoritism toward a local construction company, and his mention of “back door dealings.” The matter of any violations of the open meetings act is being addressed in a court of law.

The current and previous school board have gone out of their way to insure that local contractors are not automatically awarded bids. In fact they went out of their way, in much the same manner in the hiring of the last High School Football coach.

Throughout the sale of the RV Resort, I have read the accusations of the KPP group published time after time in the Valley Courier, as if it is read enough it will become fact. Maybe it is coincidence but 2/3 candidates that are being supported by KPP are pictured speaking, and no mention was made of the comment about back door deals?

Thank You,

Eric Gile
