Fransen is Colorado Master Farm Homemaker

ALAMOSA Colorado Master Farm Homemakers for 2013 include Julie Fransen of Alamosa. Selected for her involvement in agriculture, dedication to family and leadership contributions to community, Julie was honored at the annual Master Farm Homemakers awards luncheon in Pueblo on Saturday, Oct. 12.

The Fransen farm in the San Luis Valley currently produces grain and alfalfa and an outstanding herd of Boer goats. Following the death of her husband Gilbert, Julie has maintained the family farm with the help of her children.

In addition to supporting her own children in school activities and 4-H, Julie nurtures teens in her local church through GEMS (Girls Everywhere Meeting the Savior), a group that seeks to equip woman to live radically faithful lives.

Julie is also a talented crafter who markets her many creations on social media and encourages others through her inspirational messages posted from her heart.

Julie is a vital part of her local community as well as the keeper of her farm.

To qualify as a Master Farm Homemaker, the recipient must receive at least 51 percent of her family income from agriculture and be nominated by an organization. Julie was nominated by the Sweet Peas FCE Club.

Sponsors of the Colorado Master Farm Homemakers award are Colorado Farm Bureau, Colorado Potato Growers Administrative Committee, Colorado CattleWomen, Colorado State Grange, CSU Cooperative Extension Education and the Colorado Master Homemakers Guild.
