Wow, what a great community we live in! As the bulk of our summer visitor traffic winds down, I finally have a moment to take a look back on 2013. Frigid temperatures early in the year were worrisome as it obviously deterred some visitors. But, once spring perked everything up, we really came to life! In addition to an increase in visitor numbers at the Colorado Welcome Center, we had a huge amount of great events in Alamosa, both old and new, that kept nearly every weekend filled with fun activities. All of our summer events could never be possible without the all of the hard-working, dedicated volunteers that put in so much time in making their event happen.
This last year, the Alamosa Marketing District was able to contribute over $60,000 back to the community in support of many of these events. And, I would like to say on behalf of my office and staff at the Convention & Visitors Bureau, a very BIG THANK YOU to everyone that helped make several events a success for us. I wish I had the time and space to name everyone individually, but I fear I would leave someone out, there were so many people! All departments of the City of Alamosa were wonderful including Parks and Rec, Public Works, Alamosa PD, and even the Fire Department. Alamosa County and the Alamosa School District also deserve a huge round of applause. A few individuals at Adams State University, Town & Country Autos, and my “tractor guys”, were heroes too. And, we certainly appreciated the collaboration from many downtown Alamosa businesses and the Rio Grande Scenic RR.
We live in a very welcoming community and I believe that is one of the reasons our events are so successful. In the words of the Fireball Run Adventurerally, thanks again to everyone who made this year truly epic!
