MONTE VISTA — “We didn’t want to turn any veteran away,” former state senator Lewis H. Entz said, “but it happened.” According to Entz, several veterans who wanted to make the Homelake Cemetery their final resting place had to be directed to other places.

At a groundbreaking ceremony held at the cemetery on Thursday, Oct. 3, State Senator Larry Crowder described the efforts to grant the expansion of the cemetery. Crowder co-sponsored the SB 13-040 along with State Representative Edward Vigil. The bill directs the Colorado Department of Human Services to plan and manage the completion of the cemetery expansion project, and provided for the construction costs of $100,000 in 2013-14 and $285,000 in 2014-15.
