Melanie Marie Martinez

Pueblo resident Melanie Marie Martinez, 28, passed away September 30, 2013. Melanie was born on May 22, 1985 in Alamosa, Colorado the daughter of Roy Lucero Jr., and Maria V. “Lorraine” Martinez Lucero.

She was a 2003 graduate from the Alamosa Open High School. She was employed as a Corrections Officer with the Colorado Department of Corrections in Pueblo, Colorado. Melanie was a wonderful daughter, sister, godmother, aunt and niece who enjoyed shopping, going out to eat, Facebooking, fishing, camping, watching movies, but above all, spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her parents Maria V. “Lorraine” and Roy Lucero of Alamosa, CO; brother John Martinez (Esther Garza) of Sterling, CO; Godmother/Aunt Alice Martinez of Mountain Grove, MO; Aunt Clara (Gary) Hill of Mountain Grove, MO; Uncles Robert (Margie) Madrid of Trinidad, CO; Ernest (Julia) Pacheco of Albuquerque, NM; Goddaughter/niece Aysha Martinez of Sterling, CO; Niece/goddaughter Marisa Martinez of Sterling, CO; nephew/god son Jaden Martinez of Sterling, CO; god sons Marcus and Keanu Renteria of Sterling, CO; special friend Chris Sugino of Pueblo, CO; her ex-husband Fernando Leon; numerous cousins and her special pet cat Mona.

Melanie was preceded in death by her grandparents Gladys and Ted Madrid, Esther and Toby Baca, Step-grandparents Roy and Martha Lucero and her godfather/uncle Michael Pacheco.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday, October 4, 2013 at 7:00 PM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa, CO. A Memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 9:00 AM also at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. Visitation will be held Friday, October 4, 2013 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Romero Funeral Chapel in Alamosa. Cremation was chosen and Inurnment will be held at a later date. A Memorial Fund has been established at First Southwest Bank in Alamosa for Melanie. Arrangements are in care of Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa.
