ALAMOSA — Attendance at the Boys and Girls Club of the San Luis Valley has doubled since Lynn Cotton took over as director earlier this year, and now she fears she will have to turn over 100 children away because there is just not enough money.
On Wednesday, Cotton, the club’s director who came on board earlier this year, shared the reality of the organization’s budget or, more appropriately, its color with the Alamosa County Commissioners on Wednesday during their regular meeting.
“We are going to be in trouble in 2014,” Cotton said. “We are in the red. We have been operating in the red for a couple of years. It is critical.”
The club recently opened a credit line, she said, to meet 2013 budget needs, which hover around $350,000.
