CHAMA — On September 12 Colorado State Troopers and Costilla County Deputies rescued two male children who had been abducted by their father, James Gonzales, from Albuquerque, NM. The children have been listed as missing by the Center for Missing and Exploited Children since August 12, 2012.
Troopers received a tip from a citizen that a male party had moved into a residence in Chama, Colorado with two children earlier this year. The citizen was concerned for the welfare of the children. While following up on the tip, a State Patrol Investigator utilized license plate information to identify a vehicle associated with Gonzales at a residence in the Chama area. Gonzales had a nation-wide warrant for the parental kidnapping of his children.
The State Trooper and Costilla County deputies initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and a male, later identified as James Gonzales, 53, Albuquerque, NM exited the car and began fighting with the officers. Gonzales was taken into custody and his identity along with that of the children was confirmed through the FBI Albuquerque Office and the Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
