ALAMOSA– The city’s newest temporary residents apparently aren’t quite ready to leave.
What appears to be the same Black bear sow and cub that showed up in East Alamosa on Monday have been making the rounds, sighted on Ross Avenue in the north part of town early Wednesday morning. The cub was found alone in an apple tree in the 300 block of 13th Street Wednesday afternoon with ‘mama’ bear nowhere to be found.
Little bear eventually climbed down around 5 p.m. Wednesday and darted around the neighborhood before being chased up another tree on Denver Avenue by Alamosa Police Department officials. Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers were en route to try and deal with the situation.
In spite of the “cuteness” factor, residents are advised to stay clear of the bears as sows are extremely protective of their young and will attack without provocation.
