SunPower eyes Alamosa County

Site of proposed SunPower solar facility

ALAMOSA — California-based solar company, SunPower, is requesting an Alamosa County land use permit to construct and operate a 49.5 Megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic facility on 320 acres of contiguous, rurally zoned land.

The property is located on Highway 112, 2.5 miles east of Road N 100, according to the Alamosa County 1041 permit application. It will occupy the eastern half of a 640-acre property (320 acres) belonging to K&M Farms. The nearest town is Hooper, which is approximately six miles east.

SunPower is requesting a 35-year permit period, and the Public Service Company of Colorado would construct interconnection facilities and any required upgrades under a Large Generator Interconnection Agreement, according to the permit application. The solar company will be responsible for constructing a 2.9-mile gentie from the project onsite substation to the San Luis Valley substation. Access to the facility would be via Alamosa County roads.

The facility will have a project substation that collects power from the arrays at medium voltage, and steps-up the voltage for delivery to Xcel system, according to the permit application.
