ALAMOSA—The 2013 17th Annual Bob A Lu Golf Tournament was a great success this past weekend.
“A total of 18 teams signed up and played in what was described as one of our out of the ordinary seasonal normal hot days,” explained Cattails Golf Pro Bryce Bervig in an email to the Courier.
The tournament, which took place on Sunday, is used to raise funds for the Adams State University golf programs. This year Head Coach Adam Jardon and Assistant Coach Bryce Bervig assigned numerous of the Grizzly Men and Women Golfers to mingle and hit shots for the contestants. As a result, the scores where some of the lowest an 18-hole round can offer.
Taking the crown with an amazing score of 37 was the team of Peggy Eakin, Mike Flavin, Rod Silver, and Kristi Cortez. Second place went to Norm Clark, Miguel Martinez, Aubin Maestas, and Richard Baker with a 38.
“This is one of the most successful Bob A Lu tournaments from prior years,” said Bryce Bervig. He added, “the Bob A Lu has raise well of $30,000 for Adams State golf over the years and I cannot say enough thanks to John and Flats Lujan for putting this event together each year.”
This year the tournament raised around $2500 for ASU golf scholarships. The 2013 sponsors were also a big part of the success and they included the Bank Shot, Sports Print Plus, Automotive Concepts, The Rubi Slipper, Carlucci’s, Colorado Sports, Valley Meat Company, Cattails GC, First Southwest Bank, Atencio’s Market, and True Grit Steakhouse.
