ALAMOSA — Gov. John Hickenlooper visited with constituents on Wednesday in the Alamosa City Council chambers during his two-day tour of Southern Colorado and the Eastern Plains.

After an early morning gathering in Trinidad, the Gov. addressed two subjects with his Valley audience, gun control and capital punishment, before hearing from the community.

In March, the Gov. signed House Bill 1229, which requires if “any person who is not a licensed gun dealer transfers possession of a firearm, he or she must arrange for a licensed dealer to obtain the required background check.” The dealer must follow all procedures that it would follow were it transferring the firearm in a retail transaction, and the dealer must provide a copy of the background check results and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation approval or disapproval for a possible fee of up to $10.
