CENTER — A Center man charged with attempted homicide for striking a 19-year-old male with a vehicle in the vicinity of Washington and 6th streets June 7 was arraigned June 25 in Saguache County Court on numerous additional charges.
The victim, Pedro Portillo, 19, survived the incident.
In addition to attempted murder, Rafael Sanchez, 22, of Center was charged with committing a violent crime with a weapon, two counts of committing a violent crime causing serious bodily injury or death, first-degree assault, third-degree assault, committing a violent crime enhanced by the use of a weapon, two counts of felony menacing, DUI, driving with excessive alcohol content and prohibited use of a weapon while intoxicated.
According to Sgt. Tim Arellano with the Center Police Dept., the case has been turned over to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
Sanchez is being held at the Saguache County Jail on a $250,000 cash surety bond.
