ALAMOSA — San Luis Valley Federal Bank President Duane Bussey announced the bank sponsored fireworks show in Alamosa will be postponed.
“We are all concerned about our unusually dry conditions and the devastating local wildfires. It seems appropriate we postpone the fireworks show until we get some good rains and the fires burning in our nearby communities are under control,” he said. “We are disappointed we won’t be able to help Alamosa County put a fun exclamation point on their 100th Anniversary celebration in Cole Park. However, there is lots of anxiety in our community about fire danger and safety has always been our first priority. We will find a date, hopefully before the end of summer, when we can plan a show for everyone to enjoy.”
The bank has sponsored the July 4th fireworks show in Alamosa for the last 16 years. A local pyrotechnics team led by Darrell Meis and Anthony Lucero has managed the show each of those 16 years.
“We have a dedicated group of about a dozen people who help with the show. They’ve given their time as a community service for many years and they’ve done a fantastic job of putting safety first. In addition, we get great support from law enforcement and the fire department. I know they will all do a fine job again this year when we find an alternate date,” said Bussey.
Other events around the July 4th Cen tennial Celebration will continue as normally scheduled. For more information on the schedule of events, the public may log on to alamosacountycentennial.wordpress.com or by liking the county’s facebook page at Alamosa County Centennial – 100th Celebration.
