ALAMOSA — Adams State University (ASU) has adjusted its Spring Break schedule to coincide with many San Luis Valley public school calendars, announced University President David Svaldi.
“Although our academic calendar was already set through 2015, we believe aligning our break with the school districts’ will eliminate a hardship for our students and faculty with school-age children,” Svaldi said.
The university’s Spring Breaks are now scheduled for March 24-28, 2014, and March 23-27, 2015. The calendar originally set the breaks two weeks earlier. The university sets its academic calendar three years in advance. Adams State’s spring semester usually concludes the second week of May.
The misalignment of Spring Breaks was one concern voiced recently by parents who asked the Alamosa School Board to reconsider the district’s calendar for the coming year.
“We consulted with our Faculty Senate and surveyed students prior to making the calendar change,” said Dr. Frank Novotny, Adams State vice president for Academic Affairs. “This eases the child care burden for those in our campus community who have children in school. It will allow them to truly have a ‘break.’ It is also more convenient for high school students who are concurrently enrolled in courses at Adams State.”
