ALAMOSA —Ortega Middle School’s Theatre O brings two old, but favorite plays to Alamosa this Thursday in its A Cinco de Mayo Celebration stage production.

The production features the plays Sunday Cost Five Pesos and Tooth or Shave, which provided the student actors, actresses and crew the opportunity to learn about Mexican culture shortly after the Mexican Revolution, the history behind Cinco de Mayo celebrations and a folkloric dance numbers courtesy of Semillas de la Tierra’s Domingo Estrada.

As Theatre O’s final production of the year, the troop bids farewell to a number of now rising freshman actresses and crewmembers including three-year members Brittny Cook, Nakokle Davidson, Brittany Laske, April Miller and Sarah Solis; two-year members Sarah Gallegos and Sonya Heredia; and one-year member Olivia Miller.

“They are a gifted group of young people who not only meet the responsibilities of seeing a large project through, but also bring great qualities with them such as kindness, helpfulness, leadership and compassion,” said Theatre O Director Adriana Chapa about the entire troop. “They are truly a wonderful group of young people.”

The one-day only public A Cinco de Mayo Celebration production is Thursday at 7 p.m. at the middle school. They will perform for their peers on Friday.
