ALAMOSA — A 24-year-old woman is recovering from stab wounds to her neck and chest, while her alleged attacker is in custody, following a report of a stabbing over the weekend.

Ryan Antonio Lopez, 30, was arrested for first-degree assault and criminal impersonation, based on allegations that he stabbed Amber Elizabeth Garcia during a May 4 incident.

The Alamosa County Sheriff’s Department, in conjunction with the Colorado State Patrol, responded to the scene on Alamosa County Road 6 South at about 6:45 p.m. that night. Sheriff’s deputies found that Garcia sustained serious bodily injury as a result of stab wounds to her neck and chest.

Deputies initially arrested Lopez for first-degree assault. But when he allegedly told them that his name was “Shawn Black,” they added a second charge of criminal impersonation.

Emergency responders transported Garcia to the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center, while the sheriff’s office moved Lopez to the Alamosa County Jail.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in Alamosa County Court on Monday, May 13 for a return filing of charges.
