Letter to the Editor: Regulate marijuana like alcohol

Posted: Wednesday, May 8th, 2013

My name is Mark Bustos. Iím writing this letter for a few reasons.

First off Iím the former owner of Sensitiva Holistic Therapeutics LLC in Alamosa. I want to make a public record of recent and past liquor violations in Alamosa and Alamosa County which is purely pathetic and shady business management when a liquor establishment gets to have many violations some every year and some not but still remain in business.

I for one had to go thru a very vigorous background check which I passed as well as my brother the background check fills a box of 12x12x12 inches completely full. No other business in Alamosa I know first hand didnít have to do I not once received any violation even after being raided by our local finest Alamosa Sheriffís Office only to be left alone after 2 hours of being held against mine and a few of my loyal employees free will and the constant harassment of police presence sitting in front of my business watching my sick and disabled patrons which I finally had to call the local cop in charge and ask they move so my business was able to function without them being there just like they still do to our liquor store in east Alamosa.

I not once received any violation from any local or state authority only to be run out of business because our landlord $27000 owed in back taxes. Why that high who knows lack of local restrictions and no actual in hand state license other than a temporary license which was just a piece of paper and almost $15000 I paid to receive one actual state license which never came. I paid in good faith and only to be shunned by local politicians and ultimately I decided to close shop because nobody at local policy could do any thing but try to close us down because I didnít have $250000 to build two buildings one grow room and one dispensary and bring another out of town medical marijuana shop in which in turn will not grow their own locality which who knows how Alamosa will ever be able to track. I had mine all in one building where everything operated under one roof and state inspector first hand said he totally approved because he could track all in one building. Sensitiva was accepted in our community because I ran a tight ship and didnít allow mishandling of my products in house all of it in house and never not once had any police contact other than one time when a customer stole a cell phone from an employee and when local police found me as a legitimate business.

Alamosa please open your eyes to these problems at hand. If a store violates more than one time alcohol or pharmacy or medical marijuana or retail marijuana store should license be revoked? Yes in every instance regulate marijuana like alcohol. You say I foresee total pathetic enforcement here. Thank you.
