ALAMOSA — A single-vehicle accident last week claimed the life of an Alamosa man who was driving a commercial vehicle near Chama, N.M.
Emergency responders rushed Bobby Fuqua from the scene of the May 2 incident to San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, but the 52-year-old man was pronounced dead upon arrival.
New Mexico State Police Sgt. Emmanuel Gutierrez said in a statement that Fuqua was traveling on State Route 17 when his truck crashed near milepost 9.
An estimated 7,000 gallons of petrol and 1,000 gallons of diesel leaked out of the truck, prompting authorities to close a nine-mile radius of SR 17 in both directions; a cleanup agency has since remediated the site.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and no one else was injured.
The incident is still under investigation.
