MONTE VISTA — A heated family argument sent one Monte Vista man to the hospital on Sunday for treatment of life-threatening injuries, while his father wound up in custody for allegedly stabbing him.
Monte Vista Police Chief Jim Grayson said in a press release that his office arrested John Marquez for first-degree assault, following a report of an alleged incident at 668 Jackson St.
Police officers arrived at the scene at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday to find that Marquez’s 27-year-old son Jesse was suffering from a stab wound to his lower chest and upper abdomen.
Their investigation revealed that Jesse Marquez and his 50-year-old father were arguing in the moments leading up to the alleged assault.
The Monte Vista Ambulance Service transported Jesse Marquez to the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center for medical treatment. At the time Grayson’s office issued its press release, the younger Marquez was reportedly undergoing surgery.
John Marquez is scheduled to appear in Rio Grande County Court on May 6 for a return filing of charges. He remains in custody at the Rio Grande County Jail.
