Longtime Alamosa resident Meliton Fernandez Lopez, Jr., 85, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2013 at his home surrounded by his wife Theresa Lopez and his loving family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Meliton worked in Maintenance for the Alamosa School District for 25 years and until his retirement in 1991.
He is survived by his wife Theresa; his five sons and one daughter: Jerry (Teresa), Denise (John), Greg (Elma), Chris (Jewel), Dominic (Liz) and Carlos (Mary) Lopez; as well as his sisters Lupe Romero, Emelina (Alfred) LeFebre, Cleo (Melvin) Gallardo, Rose (Ray) Torres; his grandchildren Brian, Damien, Sabrina, Stephen, Alex, Natalie, Brittany, Casandra, Alex, Amy, Joshua, Lyla, Ruby, Marco and one great grandchild Tiago Lopez.
His parents and his brother-in-law Don Romero preceded him in death.
A visitation was held from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. followed by a Recitation of the Rosary 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening, April 4th at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa. A second Recitation of the Rosary was held 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa, followed by a Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013 also at the church. Interment followed services in the Alamosa Cemetery.
