COSTILLA COUNTY – Following a new pipe break on April 19 and temporary shutdown of the water system in New San Acacio, a boil water advisory was issued on April 22. The San Acacio Domestic Water Association experienced a similar situation one week previous.
Under the advisory, only bottled water or water that has been properly boiled can be used for human consumption. Colorado’s Water Quality Control Division requires a precautionary boil water advisory after an interruption in service. After tests confirm that no contamination has occurred during the break in service, the state agency is expected to lift the advisory, and residents will be notified.
In the meantime, Public Health and Emergency Management Officials in Costilla County have stayed in contact with residents and provided water and hand sanitizer to make sure that public health needs for water and sanitation are met.
In addition, a collection site has been established in New San Acacio for the collection of plastic water bottles so that they can be recycled.
