ALAMOSA — An early Monday morning fire gutted a rural rental home northeast of Alamosa, but no one was injured in the blaze.

Alamosa Fire Chief Don Chapman said Monday that the tenants were in the process of moving out of the home at 12287 Road 5 S., and weren’t there at the time the blaze ignited.

Dispatchers first contacted the Alamosa Fire Department at about 6:14 a.m. to report the conflagration; 18 Alamosa firefighters, plus six firefighters from the Mosca-Hooper Volunteer Fire Department, responded to the call.

Due to the location of the fire and the poor condition of the roof, firefighters struggled to control the blaze, Chapman said.

“The fire gutted the house, so it will have to be torn down,” he said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Chapman said it could take several days before his office reaches its determination.
