Ernestina “Tina” S. Valdez, 79

San Luis resident Ernestina “Tina” S. Valdez, 79, passed away April 16, 2013 at home under Hospice Care surrounded by her loving family. Ernestina was born on July 18, 1933 in Mesita, Colorado the daughter of Jose D. Barela and Maria Rita Aragon Barela. Ernestina was a member of the Carmelitas Society. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who enjoyed praying, going to bingo, gambling, knitting, crocheting and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her daughters Rita (Lee) Rael of Questa, NM; Rosalie (John) Collins of Albuquerque, NM; Emma (Walter) Roybal of Ft. Garland, CO; son Lawrence Valdez of San Luis, CO; honorary son David Valdez of San Luis, CO; grandchildren Reyna Martinez (Andrew Gallegos), Erica (Jake) Montoya, Lukadio Quintana, Antonio Valdez, Anikah Roybal, Dariana Roybal, Chelsea Roybal, John Collins, Travis Collins, Jason (Erika) Rael, Lori (Jerome) Ortega, JR (Pam) Rael, Jeffrey Rael, great-grandchildren Mateo Ortega, Carlos Ortega, Noah Rael, Adrianne Rael, Jaylee Rael, sister Florence Barela of Belen, NM; brothers Felix (Inez) Barela of Albuquerque, NM; Max (Lupe) Barela of Belen, NM. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tina was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ross J. Valdez, brothers Joseph, John, Carmel, Julian and Ben Barela.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 7:00 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in San Luis. Another will be held on Friday, April 19, 2013 at 7:00 PM at the Sangre De Cristo Catholic Church. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 11:00 AM also at Sangre De Cristo Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the San Luis Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday and Friday from 1-5 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in San Luis who is in care of the arrangements.
