La Jara resident Celestino Trujillo, 87, passed away April 3, 2013 at his home under Hospice care surrounded by his loving family. Celestino was born on December 17, 1925 in Capulin, Colorado the son of Celestino Trujillo Sr., and Escolastica Romero Trujillo. He was enlisted in the United States Marines and was a veteran of World War II. Celestino was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed reading, watching TV, doing yard work, taking care of his dogs and the time he spent with family and friends.
Survivors include his daughters Anita Trujillo, Theresa Cantu both of Sacramento, CA; Ida (Steve) Barela, Judy Vasquez both of Colorado Springs, CO, Lina Vasquez Quintana of Montrose, CO; son Joe Trujillo of Sacramento, CA; step-sons Guy Vasquez of La Jara, CO; Alvin Vasquez of Alamosa, CO; Glen (Loretta) Vasquez of Colorado Springs, CO; Wayne (Sherri) Vasquez of Colorado Springs, CO; Ruben (Jenny) Vasquez Jr. of Price, UT; Jerry (Vivian) Vasquez of Salt Lake City, UT; Virgil (Lulu) Vasquez of Albuquerque, NM; Lee Vasquez of Las Animas, CO; seven grandchildren fifteen great-grandchildren; one sister Annie Trujillo of Fremont, CA. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Celestino was preceded in death by his parents Celestino and Escolastica Trujillo Sr., wife Carol M. Vasquez-Trujillo, brothers Baldy and Fred Trujillo and two sisters Eleanor and Tisha Trujillo.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Monday, April 8, 2013 at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 11:00 AM also at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Ortiz Cemetery with full military honors. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa.
