Modified: Tuesday, Mar 19th, 2013

Alamosa Fire Chief Don Chapman walks around the burned out home in the State Avenue Century Mobile Home Park on Monday. After the home was burgled, it was set on fire and completely destroyed. Matthew James Aguilar was arrested.

ALAMOSA A home first allegedly burgled and then set a flame led to the arrest of Matthew James Aguilar, 18, Alamosa, on Monday.

Alamosa Fire Chief Don Chapman said in an interview yesterday afternoon the fire department responded to the State Avenue Century Mobile Home Park scene at 1:31 a.m. Monday in tandem with Alamosa Police Department, which had been dispatched to the same location for a burglary in progress.

Along with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the three agencies deemed the fire arson, and quickly connected Aguilar to the crime, according to Alamosa Police Captain Robert Jackson in an interview yesterday.

On Monday afternoon, Aguilar was apprehended and charged with first-degree arson, second-degree burglary and theft. He was booked at the Alamosa County Jail with bail set at $50,000.

Chapman said the home was not occupied at the time of the event and no one was injured.

Anyone with further information about the burglary or arson is asked to contact the Alamosa Police Department at 589-2548 or call Crime Stoppers at 589-4111.
