San Luis resident Arthur Praxedes “Praxie” Ortega, 66, passed away March 7, 2013 at his home in San Luis. Prax was born on December 6, 1946 in San Luis, Colorado the son of Arthur Praxedes Ortega Sr., and Daisy Vigil Ortega. He was a Veteran in the United States Navy and served in the Vietnam War. Active in veterans’ organizations he was a life member and post commander of the V.F.W. post 6101 in San Luis, a member of the D.A.V. La Jara Post 3, American Legion Post 142 in San Luis. Prax was an amazing son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who enjoyed working on the ranch, riding horses, fishing and the time he spent with his family and friends.
Survivors include his daughter Jessica (Trent) Durgan of Seattle, WA; three grandchildren, Veronica Yvonne, Isabella Willora and George Oscar Durgan, sisters Annette LaBanc of Strongsville, OH; Linda (Eddie) Taylor of Carson, CA; Sandy (Antonio) Ortega-Garcia and Daisy Ortega both of Alamosa, CO; brothers John Ortega of Aspen, CO; Delfino Ortega of Rio Rancho, NM. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Praxie was preceded in death by his parents Prax and Daisy Ortega, brother Anthony Ortega, brothers-in-law Tom LaBanc, Freddie Martinez, niece Joan LaBanc and one great nephew Emilio Ortega.
Cremation was chosen and a Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013, at 7pm at the Sangre De Cristo Catholic Church in San Luis. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday March 16, 2013, at 11am also at the Sangre De Cristo Catholic Church in San Luis. Inurnment will be held at the San Francisco Cemetery with full military honors. The family has entrusted the Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa with the arrangements.
